DVD TALENTS PERFORMANCES

Sortie le 19/12/2007 - 30 €

Both worlds of art and sport have in common 'performance' in common: to push the limits of endurance for athletes, the creative boundaries for artists. Both worlds touch on esthetics. TALENTS offers a pertinent look at sports through the eyes of a generation of creators. Eight cinematographers treat the subject - these artistic performances, bizarre and hypnotic, echo their athletic counterparts through metaphor and propaganda.

FRANZ WANNER

KUNSTLAUF

– 2007 / 00:02:50'
KUNSTLAUF

In "Kunstlauf", the artist expands the Museum of Modern Art in Munich (Pinakothek der moderne), by declaring its surrounding area as an art space as well. He manages to slide across the aura of the art-institution, neither being detained within its spatial exclusiveness, nor flat lining it and becoming excluded from it.
Thus, his failure becomes independent and self-determinate, just like the successful phases of his slapstick-like appropriation of the harsh field of art.

GREGOIRE BOURDEIL

101 SHEEP

– 2007 / 00:04:30'
101 SHEEP

Since three years, he makes videos in which images and textures mix: photographys, TV and computer screens, or even projections are absorbed by the video as an instrument that enlarges, trifurcates and deteriorates them. Often the original images are distorted in a frightening way that makes them seem unreal. A succession of stories that questions the notion of instant passages, all those mysterious moments of time gliding, through a poetic narration.

OLYMPIANS 2

– 2006 / 00:07:47'
OLYMPIANS 2

Paralympics/Olympic is about paralympicathletes, people who have outstanding performance records in sports but are marginalized in the Olympic Games.
"With my work I am trying to make these Paralympics athletes'bodies and voices public".

 ADDICTIVE TV

SPORTIVE

– 2007 / 00:03:11'
SPORTIVE

"Sportive" dynamically explores movement and sound in a wide range of sports, following the action of the fast and furious sporting forms being sampled, as they evolve into shifting new musical patterns of rhythmic audio and video.

Addictive TV takes over films and advertising images on sport. From those footages, remixed and compiled, they create a video clip with natural sound effects: the breathing, the heart beat, a foot taping, a ball bouncing. A film based on sound rhythms.
It will be aired at the opening concert at the MOCA itinerant exhibition in Shangai "Sport in Art" then till august 2008 in the biggest chinese contemporary art museums..

POWER UP

– 2006 / 00:03:35'
POWER UP

Jungju's film gives us a real close up on physical training. Repetition and effort are the main themes. In that movie,no amazing record but a meticulous preparation close to perfection. An invitation to meditate and to concentrate. The rhythm of breathing speaks the body and sets the mind.

EFFORTS (Decathlon)

– 2007 / 00:14:00'
EFFORTS (Decathlon)

Efforts has a simple concept: "to reverse what the audience sees and to make us see what the athletes look at, what they feel at the moment of their effort. To express this inner sensory universe, I chose to equip an athlete with a small camera fixed at eye level - a subjective camera.
This technique, with the athlete's physical limits and the material, gives a mirror effect of the performance itself. A one time shot. In case of a failure, the project could collapse. The athlete and I were bound to the success of the experience."

This movie is exposed and screened part of the itinerant exhibition "Sport in Art" now in the MOCA of Shangai and till august 2008 in the biggest chinese contemporary art museums.

ERIC MICHEL

SWIMMING FLUO

– 2007 / 00:03:00'
SWIMMING FLUO

In Swimming Fluo, "light still plays an essential part, but I have completed the central dialectic by a balancing game on the elements, the time frame, and the space".
The central idea is to eulogize slowness opening the body to freedom and pleasure.
All the Games elements are there: the flame, the stopwatch, the water... But they slowly evolve backward. At that particular moment, the audience has a feeling of floating in time and space in a kind of hypnotic dimension.

VIRGINIE YASSEF

WATCHERS

– 1998 / 00:02:10'
WATCHERS

"Watchers" is a film based on footage shot during the 1998 World Soccer Game in Paris. Stolen images of birds hanging by dozens in trees, street lights, balconies and roof views of the square invaded by fans after every game, until the final victory.
There are no direct shots of the game but only of the surroundings in search of different points of view.
